There’s no ‘i’ in team

March 23, 2012

Don’t you just hate clichés?  But so often they are based on an element of truth and last night’s team outing was one such example!

Ten-pin bowling followed by a burger, sounds harmless enough; boys v. girls and it’s starting to look at little more competitive.  “Oh I’ve hardly ever played before” and you know you’re up against a professional!

What’s even worse is deviate from the boys v girls and you are in the territory of picking the team and potentially still being in line, the last in line, when everyone else is already polishing their bowling ball.

“It’s all about the taking part” – wrong.  IT’S ABOUT WINNING and for shy Lewis, usually ensconced in our rental room with his head inside a peristaltic pump, last night was all about demonstrating his other skills – champion ten-pin bowler.

Lewis is definitely not going to be last in line if we do this again – team captain at least.  Strike after strike makes you very popular and all credit to him for his winning performance.  It seems a mind attuned to understanding the detail and how something works (Lewis looks after equipment maintenance and repairs), taking equipment apart, understanding how it operates, rebuilding it better than it was before and then talking to customers about issues – is also very adept at flinging large balls, at speed, down a polished aisle and consistently knocking down 10 pins.

There’s no doubt we or ‘I’ want to be in your team next time Lewis!
