Project Overview

Smart equipment for the Smart Bog Project, Ireland

The Requirement

A team from Trinity College, Dublin, working on the Smart Bog Project, which seeks to understand global carbon stocks and the effect on global carbon emission levels, identified a need to understand and monitor water flow within peat bogs. Water flow data needed to be imported into a model to help determine the driver environmental variables which shape the carbon cycle of a peatland ecosphere and model the effect on the surrounding environment.

Our Solution

The deployment of flumes with high accuracy water level sensors connected to a vanwaltDATAHUB. For the automatic monitoring of water flow the flume works with a high precision level sensor located in a stilling well within the flume. Different size flumes are available dependant on expected flow, these can range from 0.1 litres/sec to 250 litres/sec.
