GHD, on behalf of Dunedin City Council, needed a way to monitor dissolved oxygen at four unique sites — from urban areas to quiet nature reserves. The goal? Get the data without drawing attention to the equipment. Vandalism and environmental disturbance were real concerns, so keeping things discreet was high on the list of importance.
Our solution, pair RDO Blue dissolved oxygen sensors with our vanwaltDataNode loggers to create a remote data download system. The DataNode can transmit data up to 10 km in clear line of sight — a big benefit, especially when one of the sites required us to hike across a wetland just to reach it. This added to the adventure of the day out of the office, and the blue skies were a welcome sight in what has been a pretty wet June!
With careful planning & clear communication between all parties, we installed all four sensor/logger systems in a single day. A bespoke system delivered on time and on budget.
