If money was no object …

May 6, 2010

… we would train, train, train.  The Government tells us: ‘education is the priority’, every CEO assures us that: ‘our people are our strength’ yet when times get tough, the first budget to be cut is training!  The rhetoric around ‘equipping our people/children with the skills they need’ goes out the window when money is tight but the reality is: when times are tough and each of us has to account for every penny, this is just the time when we need to perform at our most efficient.

Training is what keeps us up to date with what is happening in our industry, it gives us the skill set to do our jobs better and more proficiently. With the right training we become more resourceful, competent, proficient and capable of completing tasks more quickly and more accurately which leads to, in the longer term, cost savings and increased competitiveness.

Lets hope, whoever is in power after the election, that the cuts we know are coming, allow a little in reserve for training because we know ‘things can only get better’ – so we better be ready!
