The Eijkelkamp Saltiphone measures wind erosion. Using an acoustic measuring principle, so dusted grains are counted and the digital output signal is recorded by a datalogger. Used to monitor wind erosion that can degrade or strengthen soil.

Particles hitting the microphone produce high frequency noise, which can be distinguished from other noises caused by wind and rain. Frequencies of about 8 KHz are amplified and used to determine saltation.
