Now I know the secret….

On commenting about the serious look on the faces of some of his colleagues at a recent conference in Belfast, our correspondent there, Rory Flood let me into the secret: “ Academics have a great way of looking serious, once you’ve mastered that and quoting a dimensionless figure with error (e.g. “sea-level will rise by 42 ± 7 by 2100”) then you’re flying it!”  Now I know why academics can look so pensive, serious and intelligent. I’ll start practising….
