The arrival of the Royal baby, the third in line to the throne, will fill the news this week – congratulations William and Kate! It goes without saying that the proud parents”could not be happier” and as thousands of well-wishers descended on Buckingham Palace to celebrate the birth which will be marked with gun salutes and the ringing of Westminster Abbey’s bells we might take a few minutes to consider what it means to be Royal.
For baby Cambridge his life is already infinitely more mapped out than that of just about any other newborn child ever. Barring revolution in Britain, the shape and trajectory of his life is, in every real sense, inescapable. His destiny is to someday inherit, one of the oldest hereditary thrones in the world. His Royal status will shelter him from many of the pressures and frustrations that the rest of us have to contend with but comes at a price – a life with little privacy and a lifetime of duty.
If you are lucky enough to be dealt a Royal Flush you have beaten the odds as a Royal Flush in a game of Poker is the highest-ranking standard hand. It surpasses a Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, a Full House, Flush, a Straight, Pairs and a High Card. The probability of being dealt a straight flush is less than 0.0015% – so a Royal Flush is something rare but probably has similar odds, if you’re a commoner, of marrying a Royal Prince!
A Royal Warrant of appointment has been issued for centuries to tradespeople who supply goods or services to a royal court or certain royal personages. A Royal Warrant enables a company to advertise the fact that they have achieved the royal warrant, so lending considerable prestige to that company. Royal families of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, among others, allow tradesmen to advertise royal patronage.
That’s why Van Walt is delighted to be associated with our supplier Eijkelkamp who received a Dutch Royal Warrant in 2011.
