What’s a few Locusts & Ants for lunch – when it’s in a good cause?

August 21, 2012

It was a beautiful Sunday morning in Kent, the sun was shining and spirits were high that was until we knew what was in store for us….

Every year my boyfriend’s family host a fund raising day in memory of his cousin, Ben and to support the organisation that helped him and his family during a difficult period before he passed away. The J’s Hospice is an amazing charity that enables young adults to experience life even when their health fails them. To show our support we were part of an event to help raise money through sponsored walks and other challenges.

The fund raising day was inspired by the television show: “I’m a celebrity get me out of here” and the unlucky fund raisers had to eat all sorts of exotic things including locusts, ostrich brains and ants! Hundreds of balloons were let off in memory of loved ones passed and, if that wasn’t enough, a few keen cyclist managed to cycle Hadrian’s Wall in just two days!
Last year the proceeds bought everyone’s Christmas presents at J’s and the year before the money went to a young women to do a journalism course after she was not well enough to return to college.

Everyone at J’s Hospice do an amazing job. Doing our bit, even eating ants, is nothing to the dedication they display each day, every day – thank you.
