For us businessmen and women it is inconceivable that we would try to hide from financial reality. If our business was in a financial situation as bad as that of Great Britain PLC we would sit down with our key staff, brainstorm and put measures in place, however stringent and unpleasant, to reduce both the deficit and debt.
Why should it be any different for our potential leaders? There is a deficit and there is a debt and they will surely not go away by themselves. If cuts need to be made then so be it. If revenue through taxes needs to go up then that needs to be considered and these measures should be elaborated and explained to the electorate BEFORE the election so that we can put our X against the candidate knowing what they stand for and what policies they will work to in order to secure our future.
I’ve watched the debates on TV and have seen the potential new prime ministers wriggle, writhe and twist in whichever way to avoid telling us what they would or would not do if they were elected. Is what they have in store for us so bad that they daren’t tell us because we aren’t ready to learn the truth?
If I were prime minister…………. Ah, but I’ve just remembered! I’m allowed to pay tax (in fact twice: once as employee and once as owner of my business) but as I’m still considered an alien I’m not even allowed to vote in the general elections let alone become Prime Minister.
