When the same job is different

September 27, 2013

This morning two things happened: I woke up from a dream in which I was working with archaeologists. In my dream they discovered not just a city but an entire new culture. For those who suggest that dreams are monochromatic I can assure you that this one was in glorious technicolour. The second thing was the view which greeted me when I opened the curtains:

After a quick breakfast I hastened to the lakeside to feast on the splendour of the early morning sun on the still snowclad mountains of southern New Zealand.

Ten days ago I was very privileged to assist in coring with our Stitz sediment and window sampling set with archaeologists in Malta and no doubt that episode fed my dream. Two days ago I was on site with “Environment Southland” at a location near Invercargill, South Island, New Zealand. Environment Southland is the statutory, regional body responsible for managing the natural and physical resources of air, land, water and coast; http://www.es.govt.nz/. More or less the same work and similar, intelligent and dedicated researchers.

Same job, yet so very different. My thanks to George, Hamish, Andrew and Pierre for giving me this great opportunity to show off our window sampling equipment and to learn about the activities of your organisation..
