Penetrometers - Soil Sampling Equipment

Penetrometers are used to determine the resistance to penetration (bearing capacity) of a soil. Various penetrometers are available, from a pocket sized device to an electronic device with a built-in datalogger. Penetrometers can be applied for general soil research, basic advice for foundations, checking on artificial compaction of the soil, research into the growing circumstances of plants, and tracing compacted layers in the soil.

Hand penetrometer

  • Simple hand penetrometers available in two sets for probing to depths between 1 and 3 meters.
  • Both sets contain measuring instrument, probing rod and cones.
  • Resistance measured by cone is read from pressure gauge.

Electronic penetrometer (penetrologger)

  • Built-in data logger for storage and processing of 500 measurements.
  • Each layer of ground profile down to 80cm can be recorded.
  • Project measuring plan can be programmed-in before going on-site.
  • Software allows results to be displayed graphically or numerically for further data processing.
  • Fitted with adjustable LCD screen.
  • Battery fed.
