We have just completed another very successful training course with delegates from all over the UK and the Republic of Ireland and places are going quickly for the next course on 30th September, 1st & 2nd October 2009.
For this course we introduced a new module - Risk assessment, CLEA and other software models – which quantifies the risks for human health and ecosystems due to direct or indirect contact with contaminated soil or volatisation and to quantify the risks of migration of pollutants in soil and contaminated groundwater to vulnerable receptors. Based on the results of the risk assessment delegates will then be able to decide whether remediation is needed and the software programmes available to support a project. This module proved very effective and will form a key part of the course in the future.
In addition we are also investigating the feasibility of including a section on wetlands – a subject increasingly in the news as people recognise the importance of safeguarding wildlife, reducing flood risk to people and property and combating climate change by storing carbon, in addition to providing fantastic places for people to visit and enjoy.
In response Yvonne and Vincent have attended the Wetland Technology and Water Framework Directive: Achieving Compliance – Problems & Solutions, at WWT Slimbridge, Glouscestershire to keep abreast of the latest developments in this important sector. However, what we do know already is Van Walt has a range of equipment already in place – multi-samplers, soil moisture measurement meters, water level and water quality meters, liquid layer samplers, pumps and sediment sampling equipment - which are ideal for wetland sampling and monitoring.
So watch this space – our next course might well contain a section on Wetlands. Visit www.vanwalt.com/training-auger-groundwater-environmental.htm or call us on 01428 661 660 to secure your place.
