What’s the point of telemetry?

June 27, 2016

The answer to that question is easy: data!

Telemetry is the automatic measurement and wireless transmission of data from remote sources. Today telemetry can be used for numerous applications including collecting data from sensors located in automobiles, smart meters, power sources, robots and even wildlife.

At Van Walt we know that the ‘data’ is everything but data is only as good as it is accurate, timely and accessible. And, it’s how you, the customer, uses that data, that’s important. Plot these variables against the cost of retrieving that data against the cost of acquisition – what price the protection of people, property and place?

Many variables.

So let me tell you about vanwaltCONNECT. Almost two years since its inception our in-house developed telemetry system has already found support and approval with customers from as far afield as Somalia, Turkey, New Zealand and in the UK. Why? Well that’s much easier to define when the benefits of the system include:

  • Accurate
  • Cost effective
  • Consequences of not taking preventative action as a result of timely data outweighs cost of system
  • User friendly, intuitive interface to view and download data
  • Flexible parameter alarms by email or SMS messaging directly from the sensor
  • Control relays which means you can switch devices on & off remotely, for example sluice gates
  • Can link control relays to alarms and parameters
  • Sensor settings, alarms & upload times can be managed & changed from any web browser using our online user friendly interface or by SMS
  • Short range wireless communication also available through Bluetooth
  • Can measure a wide range of parameters: Water Level, Conductivity, pH, ORP, DO, Turbidity, Temperature, Floating Hydrocarbon and more!
  • Flexible; we can quickly adapt any system for bespoke projects
  • Up to 30 sensors can be attached to each modem
  • Long battery life to ensure low maintenance
  • Solar power option available
  • Full operative training
  • Simple pricing structure
  • Secure data storage
  • Data forwarding to your own server
  • Data presented in .csv table or graph formats
  • Flexible for use with different sensors
  • Robust & vandal resistant housing
  • User friendly web based software – minimal training required
  • Grant permission to users to allow access to data
  • Fully backed by the Van Walt technical team.

As we know: ‘Knowledge is Power’! We believe vanwaltCONNECT may not be unique – after all it is a telemetry system and there are lots out there – but we do know that when you add up the benefits for #groundwater and #environmental research – vanwaltCONNECT is distinctive and proving invaluable to many of our customers.
